Featuring MAT(T) regulars Misty Blyleven and David Harlan on stage and directed by another MAT(T) stalwart, Adriana Sanchez, Oleanna is the devastating tale of what happens when we fail to communicate with one another. Carol (played by Blyleven)—a young, seemingly clueless, and struggling student—drops into her professor, John’s (Harlan) office, for an unscheduled meeting to get help in his class. She is preoccupied with her grade, he with the pending purchase of his dream home and a recent tenure announcement. What seems like a friendly exchange between the two quickly escalates and spirals out of control when a campus “group” gets a hold of the story and words and events are twisted and turned. Set in an age of political correctness, this play spirals into tragedy as we watch both parties' inability and unwillingness to listen, as they both desperately cling to their own ideas, beliefs and interpretations of reality.
